Just go to the Settings App >Apps >Settings & Apps >Manage Optional Features >Add Feature and select the OpenSSH Client Beta and as you can see, you also have OpenSSH Server (Beta) available.
Has anyone had problems with updates taking a long time to install in the last few months? I've been watching a very fast Windows 7 machine (i7-4790, 16GB, SSD, otherwise fully patched) install this month's 11 patches, and it took just under an hour to install them. For most of that time, it sat on KB3045999. Task Manager and Resource Monitor both showed it was idle, and the event viewer isn't showing anything. After rebooting all updates are shown as successful, with nothing more pending. This isn't a new thing, though - it happened the last two Patch Tuesdays as well.
Each time has been inconsistent; it's not always the same update, and not every machine does it. I've noticed similar behavior on servers. Off hand, I would say just Server 2008 R2, but we only have a handful of 2012+ servers, and my workstation is the only one running 8. Internally, we're using WSUS, but I've had at least one remote user (who would be using Microsoft) report a similar thing. Internally at least, pulling from WSUS is fine, it's just the installation that is long. Workstations are all 7 Pro x64, antirvirus is VIPRE (a mix of 6.x and 7.x), GPO's are pretty consistent between everything, I'm probably forgetting something important I should mention.
Just like to share my experience with this issue, hopefully it might help someone saves a lot of time troubleshooting down the track. We ran into this issue around June 2015 where some updates started to take hours to install, but it was only occuring on some already built machines but was happening on all newly built machines. In Jun 2015 it was; KB3068708 KB3067505 KB3070102 Then in July 2015 it was; KB3080149 KB3078601 KB3060716 KB3071756 After a lot of troubleshooting, we decided to engage MS Premier Support for help and with their assistance we were able to find the root cause of the issue, which was HKLM SOFTWARE Microsoft Windows CurrentVersion WindowsUpdate Trace (think someone mentioned this on page 2). This key enable Windows Update extended logging which ours was set to level 3 (not sure what that means), but it was writing a lot of data into WindowsUpdate.log and cbs.log. But we didn't create this registry key? Lets rewind a few months back, we're using SCCM 2012 for our deployment and wanted to run Windows Update post deployment to search and install. After enabling the task sequence and tested everything was working, we left it at that.
Fast forward to now, when MS asked if we're using the post deployment task sequence to detect/install updates as there's a know issue with high detection time of Windows updates, then it all made sense. We opened the ZTIWindowsUpdate.wsf file and there it is, the registry that's causing this issue.

(apparently fixed in MDT 2013 Update 1 which was released last month) So we commented out the registry creation part and and removed the registry on affected machines and like magic, updates were installing as it should. So in short delete the registry HKLM SOFTWARE Microsoft Windows CurrentVersion WindowsUpdate Trace.

For the months that Microsoft drops a.NET Framework patch my total installation and slowness after login while the patch finishes up takes longer than normal but is not hanging like as described by the OP. Microsoft has reissued a Lync 2013, Word 2010, and possibly the Malicious Software Removal Tool since Tuesday and that is looking more like a pattern of bad/reissued patches aligning with previous months.
I've had 9 different patches fail out on different machines (deployed from WSUS) this month and that is also irregular. Maybe Microsoft is getting as sloppy with the patches as the internet grumblings are suggesting. It appears that this month's problem update may be KB3045999, the one the machine yesterday hung on. Today, I grabbed two machines - one a pretty fast i5 with an SSD, the other an old Athlon x2, also with an SSD. On the i5, I installed everything except.NET and the MSRT, and it's been running for 20 minutes so far and hung on 3045999. On the AMD, I installed everything except 3045999, and it finished in 10 minutes.
I'll have to keep an eye out on other machines; in previous months I didn't notice a pattern like that. This problem is still happening. I have noticed it for the last few months and it is now almost June (15) and I'm still suffering. It does not seem to be my download speed, but rather the part that happens after the forced restart. It re-boots and then just sits there with the message that 'windows is configuring updates - do not turn off your machine.
Just did today's updates and did just two of them and it took close to an hour with most of that time being after the re-boot. What gives here and what is M$ going to do about it? I also suspected the MSRT, so I grabbed several workstations and tried various combinations.
One without just MSRT, one without that plus KB3063858, and so on, also avoiding.NET. I've also narrowed down the group policies applying to them all (looking for anything overlapping), removed them all and also did an MDT deployment with no group policies applied. Tried it with our AV disabled and enabled (and it's not there in MDT), pulling from Microsoft and WSUS. So far I haven't found anything. Last week I updated a 2008 R2 machine that was a bit behind (40 updates) and it took nearly three hours.
The one constant is that it's all 7/2008 R2, I haven't noticed this on 8.1 or 2012/2012 R2. As far as disk IO, when they're hung, I'm not finding anything significant happening with disk, CPU, or memory. This is more or less the only thread I've found describing the exact problem we're having at the university where I work. It all started in the beginning of the year, only Windows 7 machines are affected for us too (no 2008 R2 servers yet), getting quite desperate! So far this is what we've got: We set up a brand new 2012 R2 WSUS server, the previous one was a 2008 Standard. Made no difference. The problem isn't specific to our AD domain as a colleagues domain also has the same problems when connecting to our WSUS Server.

It litteraly seems like nothing is happening, not on the server side either. Normally the TrustedInstaller process takes up to 25% of CPU until the installation is done. When this problem occurs the TrustedInstaller occasionally pops up for 1-2% of CPU and then goes back to 0% again.
This month's problem so far is KB3080149 It's always 'Update for.' Or 'Security update for.' , never Office updates or anything else It would be great if someone finds a solution for this problem, otherwise we'll have to live with it until moving on to Windows 10.
Edited Aug 20, 2015 at 1:16 UTC. I didn't consider LUP, but since I've gotten reports from offsite people (who get updates directly from Microsoft) I wouldn't think so. VIPRE has the standard Windows exceptions, nothing special on the workstations; I've tried leaving it disabled or not installed either as well. I'm completely lost. The only thing in common is the MDT server, I don't know of the last install that didn't use that. I did at one point manually add updates to the.wim to speed up that process, which worked fine. Maybe that somehow is causing an issue months later?
