Ps3 Warranty Serial Number
After having my house broken-into and my PS3 and dad's laptop stolen, a friend of mine managed to recover the laptop. However the theives (who I know the name of one, and the address) have traded it into a shop. So for the Police to accept that it is mine (and for them to have the nessecary power) I have to recover the serial number which I've lost, although I thought upon registration with Playstation when I first bought it, registered my serial number with Playstation?? If anyone has any infomation regarding the recovery of a PS3 serial number it would be very much appreciated.

Bennylata If you registered it with Sony, try giving them a call and see if they have it on file somewhere. The same thing happened to me a while ago, except it was my Xbox 360, my only saving grace was that I called MS because I thought something was wrong so I got them to ship me a box so thats why they had mine. If that doesnt work and the police won't give it back to you, ask your dad if you have homeowner's or renter's insurance and see if that will cover any of your stolen property. If so, they will cut your dad a check, you will have to buy a new one which sucks because you will lose all of your game saves, but you will have a PS3 at least. The hard drive brings up an interesting issue. You could simply describe the contents - what save games do you have on this system? Did you have games taken, too?
Tell them what you had on your ps3 and they can turn it on at the shop and verify. If you can't do this, then I smell a rat. When stuff is stolen, and they catch the person, the cops always ask what was taken.
If they find stuff you described without you seeing it, they give it back. Don't you ever watch cops? Otherwise, I think you're making this up.
The police need the serial number so they can match it if the PS3 was in fact sold to a pawn shop. Police departments have access to local pawn shop databases, so when they type in a serial number, they can track which store has the same one, from there they look at the ID the person used to sell it and track them down.
We had stuff stolen last year from my parents' business, and this is what the police told me as I was looking for serial numbers on the box of the HD PC monitor they took. The cop gave me a dcent rundown of how stolen goods are recovered (if possible). Like others have said, call Sony or see if you still have the receipt. Good luck bro.
[QUOTE='gusnitro']I think your lieing for some reason. _Classic_Gamer_ No offense, but I'm with this guy. You're probably the person who stole it. This is the reason i thought he was lieing.Lets say he stole a ps3 from some house or whatever. When you steal a ps3 without a box or reciept your pretty much screwed cuz theres no serial number.this guy, maybe.
Now confirmed not to of stole it. Whatever but anyways. Hes just not going to go on a forum boared and say. STOLEN PS3 TOPIC RIGHT HERE.
NEED HELP ON HOW TO RECOVER A SERIAL NUMBER.SO I CAN PLAY THE PS3 ive stolen haha.Nope, its more like some people broke into my house and stole my ps3.See what i mean.Im not accusing anymore i take it back but he if was the thief. He said this to cover his tracks. And wont sound suspicouse. (Sorry for bumping this old thread, but this is what just needed to be said.) Who keeps the box for more than a year? Also, just checked my receipt and beyond the Walmart watermarkings, all text has long since become incredibly illegible. If I kept the box for everything I had purchased, I would have no room left in my home for my family. I cannot expect anyone to retain cardboard belonging to an item past that items warranty. Insanity, lol. Anyhow, my PS3 was recently forcibly removed from my home during an extended absence and am in the process of trying to find the console's serial number attached in anyway to my PSN account.
Receipt is futile and the box has been tossed several years back. I'm surprised I couldnt find the ID listed relating to any of my previous purchase history (I'm certain there are a max of 5 simultaneous licences available per content item).
After everything Sony has been through in regards to security as of late, I'm greatly disappointed to learn of these immense shortcomings. While many could argue that such requests for information would be a reaching demand from consumers, one that may not have enough advocates to merit the effort, do not forget: Microsoft has always had a simple way to recover this type of information. This information is entirely useless in any persons hands unless that person is filing a stolen item report. Which is practically ALWAYS the case for anyone searching for said information. Of course, there is always the likely chance that I am incorrect and that there certainly could be a way to discover the serial number or logged IP of our systems.
Victims can only hope.
