Marcus379 wrote:ok, i'll look into the 5000 or 6000 instead. Just another question. Do i need a card programmer (do the coolsats even use cards???) also, did you go with one satellite and stick with that one or do you use a motorized dish?? Thanks Go to the sites.read read.get familiar.[.] I think you missed the above????? It will take more than 5 minutes.when 'he' first started did it take him 5 minutes.?? I own a Viewsat, never a CoolSAT, so I wont make the comparison. Reason why I would go with Viewsat is the fact that they have great support. Always one of the first to release a new bin file. Right now, the main players are CoolSAT, ViewSAT, and PanSAT (only cus it's been out there for so long).
CaptiveWorks is making a name for themselves, but how reliable will the support be. A box is a box, it's the support that counts.
And when one box get the fix, so will all of them. Done a lot of reading before jumping head first into FTA.
You learn a lot when you screw things up. But there's a lot of forums where friendly people will help you out. Bear in mind CoolSAT and ViewSAT have announced upcoming models. ViewSAT will have a HD and PVR unit out later this year, so they say. Clones, dont know much about them. Buy from a reputable dealer if you're worried.

Clones, dont know much about them. Buy from a reputable dealer if you're worried. You should not recommend anything at this point. I am surprised people openly discuss this stuff on a public board. Let's see, I see everyone saying how great its is.Tell me something, can you get PPV and Porn on beverly? If not, then tell me how great it is. Most folks don't have a clue what's going on out there.
Only way to see that stuff is to run a cam plain and simple. I will sit back and wait until the providers fully implement the necessary tweaks to their system. But hey, what do I know. Yes, some say that there will be no way that FTAs will be able to decrypt the latest signals from BEV. Possibly the same people who said it would be any use after n2 was implemented. FTA boxes are just emulators.
They can emulate the info, just like rom102. And guess what, rom102 are up, ppv and venus, actually within 24hrs of the changes.Better processing speed than the typical receivers. And btw, viewsats have the smart card slot. It's just a matter of time. Likely waiting for BEV to go totally black before they tip their hand to the BEV coders. With every tweak, there will be a counter tweak. If there's something to hack, and people are willing to pay for it, people will hack.
If you're in the market for satellite 'testing', the easier way is fta for sure. They work, in fact, and fixes are released quite fast. BUT They are just inferior boxes compared to a dish/bev 301/3100, running with a rom102. Better guide, faster menus. Just better overall quality.
It's just, that you need to deal with a dealer unless you wanna invest the time/money that you need to get a such setup up and running (unlocking, programming, jtaggin'.) Anyway. There's some sites out there to discuss all of this:] later, cheeb.
